Developing: New owner of the former James Square reaches settlement over care complaints

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) – Patients and residents currently living at the Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center might be entitled to compensation for improper care.

The owners of the nursing home, now under the new name, who promised to revamp the former James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre, have reached a settlement, taking responsibility for improper care during the short time overseeing the troubled nursing home.

Clinton Square Operations took over James Square on Dec. 15, 2017, after the investigation into facility by the State Attorney General’s Office was already underway and after a pending class action lawsuit was filed.

Clinton Square was added to the lawsuit after, as new owners took over a property and its pre-existing problems.

The settlement indicates that the company will pay $495,000 “to resolve all negligence and Public Health Law claims of the Plaintiffs and punitive class.”
