We previously reported about Alere Home Monitoring’s data breach. In November, Alere announced that it has exposed the medical and personal information (including social security numbers) of more than 100,000 people. Alere monitors people who receive medical treatment outside a hospital setting, including those who use anticoagulation products, heart transplant patients, and others with significant home medical needs. This exposure is potentially significant. Recent evidence indicates that the Alere data breach occurred on September 23, and Alere was notified on October 1 – yet Alere waited more than a month to notify victims.
Disclosure of personal information and medical information is unlawful, andwe have brought lawsuits on behalf of victims of such disclosures in the TRICARE/SAIC, Zappos, Sutter Health and Saint Joseph data breaches. If you were served by Alere Home Monitoring, please contact us immediately to discuss your legal options.
