Apple Macintosh computers have a well deserved reputation for the quality of its graphics and art capabilities. Unfortunately, images don’t look very good when the screen is covered with a smoky residue, which is exactly what many consumers report has happened. Buying an expensive computer with a reported defect is bad enough, but Apple allegedly adds insult to injury by systematically denying warranty coverage using a variety of excuses. Users with this problem see a grey, smoky residue on the iMac screen near the top. This would be an easy fix if it was just a matter of removing the glass screen; however, one intrepid consumer reports that he took apart the screen and found the residue between the LCD and the plastic film that covers it. Given that the iMac typically costs more than a thousand dollars, these defects are quite frustrating. Some consumers report that Apple denies warranty coverage by claiming that they live in a very humid place. This excuse seems a bit thin, given that Apple sells its computers in the same cities it now claims are too humid for its computers.
For example, one disgruntled customer from Chicago reported that Apple told him that it was too humid in his location, even though he lived very close to the Apple store itself. If what Apple says is true, then the warranty is voided the minute a consumer buys an iMac in a humid local. If Apple is denying warranty coverage for a defect it knows causes the smoky residue, it may be in violation of various state and federal laws designed to protect consumers.
