GreenPan, a manufacturer of ceramic non-stick pots and pans, advertises its products on the internet and on packaging as being “dishwasher safe.” In reality, the lifespan of GreenPan’s products is substantially reduced if cleaned in the dishwasher.
Consumers purchase ceramic cookware because of its non-stick surfaces. In an advertisement for its products on Amazon, GreenPan says that its pots and pans use less oil and offer quick and even heating, reliable cooking, and an easy to clean exterior. In the same advertisement, GreenPan also alleges that its products are dishwasher safe. However, using a dishwasher to clean GreenPan pots and pans degrades its non-stick qualities.
Indeed, the inner-packaging of GreenPan cookware, which is not viewable to customers until after they make their purchases, admits that the pots and pans must be handwashed to maintain their ceramic, non-stick surface. This also comports with reviews from consumers, many of whom complain that dishwashing damages the cookware’s non-stick surface.
