If you are a current or former patient of Oaklawn Hospital and Medical Group (Oaklawn), you may be one of almost 27,000 patients from this Michigan based hospital negatively affected by a recent data breach.
The data breach was the result of a type of cyberattack that used deceptive emails to gain access to patients’ sensitive and personal information. Between April 14th and April 15th of this year, hackers illegally accessed employee email accounts that included patients’ personal and protected information including patient names, dates of birth, medical and health insurance information, Social Security numbers, financial account information, driver’s license numbers and online login information.
Patients are required to share their personal and sensitive information to obtain medical treatment. In turn, healthcare providers, such as Oaklawn owe a duty to protect that information. Unfortunately, Oaklawn failed to do so by exposing clients’ personal and sensitive information to cybercriminals which may have been used or could still be used for identity theft and financial fraud.
Attorneys at Finkelstein, Blankinship, Frei-Pearson & Garber, LLP have successfully recovered millions of dollars on behalf of data breach victims. We are currently investigating this matter, as well as other data breaches. If you believe that your personal and sensitive information may have been unlawfully accessed, please contact us to explore your legal options.
