Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall of roughly 61,450 vehicles with the potential to cause fire and injury from misaligned air conditioning hose. Mercedes-Benz 2020-2021 GLE350, GLE450, GLS450, GLS580, 2021 AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63, Maybach GLS600, AMG GLS63, and 2020 GLE580 vehicles have been reported to cause water intrusion within the footwells of these cars. This water stems from the AC drain hose. This intrusion into your vehicle has the potential to spark an electrical short. This malfunction can result in fire placing you in harm’s way. Mercedes-Benz has published through The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that as the footwells become damp, “the emergency call (eCall) feature may be disabled and the doors may not unlock”. The announcement on NHTSA goes on to cite that “the engine may not start or may enter a limp-home mode”. These malfunctions can place consumers in a hazard situation.
The attorneys at Finkelstein, Blankinship, Frei-Pearson & Garber, LLP have successfully prosecuted numerous consumer protection actions. If you or someone you know owns one of these vehicles, please contact us immediately so we can discuss this matter with you.
