Nissan has announced a recall of approximately 153,376 vehicles with distorted rear-view cameras. The defective design of the rearview camera may become damaged from vibrations during normal vehicle use. Over time, damage to the harness can result in the degradation of the rear-view camera display image, leading to issues such as blurriness, distortion, multi-colored imagery, or in some cases, a blank screen. The recall published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes “A rearview camera that does not properly display an image can reduce the driver’s rear view, increasing the risk of a crash”. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.” Such a defect places drivers in harm’s way.
