Fiberon May Not Be Honoring Its Warranty When Deck Stains Appear

One of the biggest home improvements consumers make is the installation of a deck.  Nothing is nicer than setting up the barbeque to grill on the deck on a nice summer day.  Of course, decks are not cheap, and having to strip and stain wood decking every few years can be expensive, time consuming, and messy.  It is not surprising, then, that many consumers look for alternatives to wood, and one popular option involves composite materials which should be long lasting and stain resistant.  One of the largest manufactures of composite decking materials is Fiberon.

Fiberon offers its “Fiberon Horizon® and Fiberon Outdoor Flooring™ PVC” composite decking, claiming that it offers “unsurpassed stain, fade, scratch and mold resistance.”  To allay consumers’ concerns with buying non-traditional materials, Fiberon offers a “25-Year Stain & Fade warranty.” However, many consumers who have purchased Fiberon products report being less than satisfied.  Apparently, the composite boards are prone to moldy spots that can only be removed (if at all) by using expensive chemicals.

Most disturbing are reports by consumers that indicate that Fiberon is refusing to honor its warranty, or even pay for the cleaning agents. If you or anyone you know purchased Fiberon decking and have experienced any problems, please contact us to discuss your legal options.
