Over 30,000 patients affected in Management and Network Services, LLC data breach

A Management and Network Services, LLC (MNS) data breach may have affected over 30,000 patients including exposing their most sensitive information such as names, dates of birth, social security numbers, financial account numbers, and insurance information among other sensitive data.  MNS, which currently operates in 38 states around the country, is a third-party administrative company that assists in managed care by placing patients in nursing facilities and other admissions, serving as a “link between payor and provider” according to it’s website.  Email accounts of several of its employees were hacked between April and July of 2019.  This breach was discovered by MNS on August 29, 2019, however, MNS only began notifying its clients and patients of the data breach on March 5, 2020.  The Federal Trade Commission breach notification rule requires that vendors not covered by HIPPA rules, such as MNS,  inform consumers of a breach within 60 days.  MNS appears to have failed to keep patient data safe, and also appears to have failed to inform its clients and their patients of this breach in a timely manner.
