13,146 Patients’ PHI Compromised By Ransomware Attack

Are you a current or former patient of Mat-Su Surgical Associates or Valley Surgical Associates? If so, your personal and medical information may have been illegally accessed by cybercriminals.

The Alaska-based Mat-Su Surgical Associates (MSA) experienced a data breach early this year compromising the protected health information (PHI) of 13,146 patients.

MSA admits that “patient names, addresses, Social Security numbers, diagnosis and treatment information, test results, health insurance information, and other information related to patient medical care” were accessed as a result of the breach.  Medical treatment is conditional on patients sharing their personal and sensitive information with healthcare providers.  In turn, patients expect their information to remain protected.  Unfortunately, MSA appears to have allowed cybercriminals to obtain its patients’ sensitive information.

Attorneys at Finkelstein, Blankinship, Frei-Pearson & Garber, LLP have successfully recovered millions of dollars on behalf of data breach victims.  We are currently investigating this matter, as well as other data breaches.  If you believe that your information may have been unlawfully accessed, please contact us to discuss your legal options.
