Judge OKs $5.5M settlement in suit against former James Square nursing home

There’s a new settlement in the class action suit against a Syracuse nursing home.

A judge on Friday approved $5.5 million in payments in the suit against the former James Square Rehabilitation.

This is the second settlement involving the home, which is under new ownership as Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing.

In 2018, the home’s new owners agreed to pay nearly $500,000. That settlement also resulted in a court order to improve staffing conditions at the home.

“For some of the families, no money will be enough, but people should know that we’ve achieved, what I believe is justice for their family members,” said Jeremiah Frei-Pearson of Finkelstein, Blankinship, Frei-Pearson & Garber, LLP.
