HOW DID THE BREACH OCCUR?
According to various news sources, on March 17, 2023, Sunland Asphalt and Construction, LLC (“Sunland”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after learning that an unknown actor had gained access to certain parts of the Sunland network that stored confidential consumer information. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ names, dates of birth, financial account information, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, driver’s license numbers, payment card information, medical information, health insurance information, electronic signatures, and usernames and passwords. After confirming that consumer data was leaked, Sunland began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.
