Michelin North America, Inc. has recalled approximately 542,110 thousand tire units due to a traction testing oversight. These units include Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires in sizes 185/60R15C, 195/75R16C, 205/65R15C, 205/75R16C, 225/75R16C, and 235/65R16C. On November 14, 2022, as part of production transferring, it was discovered that an initial certification for these tires were performed at an improper tire pressure. A complete data testing concluded that the tires do not have sufficient traction to perform in all snow weather conditions. As published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration site, these tires are labelled as snow tires and are marked with the Alpine symbol, affirming that they have been specifically designed for use in severe weather conditions. These tires fail to comply with the requirements of U.S. CFR Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 139, “New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles.” Non-compliance with FMVSS asserts the dangers of the units. With this insufficient traction, consumers are now at an increased risk of crash.
