Mazda has announced a recall of approximately 227,335 vehicles with distorted rear-view cameras. The defective design of the rearview camera may become damaged from vibrations during normal vehicle use and/or while closing the liftgate. High electrical resistance is also caused by worn out electrical connection pins. The recall published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes “A distorted or flickering rearview camera image while reversing could affect driver judgment, increasing the risk of a crash”. Such a defect restricts driver visibility, placing drivers in harm’s way.
