Nissan has announced a recall of approximately 66,159 vehicles that are susceptible to unintentional acceleration. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has publicized Nissan’s recent recall stating that the programming issues of certain 2018-2023 Nissan LEAF vehicles heightens the risk of car crashes. On LEAF vehicles with affected VCM software, drivers are at risk if both of the following actions are taken within 8 seconds after deactivating cruise control, Intelligent Cruise Control or ProPILOT Assist functions: (a) switches driving mode (i.e. from ‘D’ to ‘B’ position, or ‘ECO’ mode, or e-Pedal ‘ON’); and (b) then applies and releases the accelerator pedal. Such conditions place drivers at risk of acceleration. Vehicles may also not slow down as expected. This system error is a hazard for consumers.
