Chrysler has announced a recall of approximately 80,206 vehicle equipment with the potential cause an increase in the risk of injury. Certain Steering Column Control Modules (SCCM) electrical functions may fail and deactivate the driver’s air bag. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection”. Such a defect will reduce occupant protection in the event of a crash. A deactivated air bag cannot deploy as intended during a crash, resulting in an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants. BCS Automotive is in clear violation of these safety requirements.
