Ford is recalling 2.9 million vehicles that may not shift into the correct gear resulting in the vehicle moving in an unintended direction. These vehicles include but are not limited to the Escape, the Fusion and the Edge and date back to some 2013 Ford vehicles.
Reported problems include the transmission on affected Ford vehicles not being in the park position even though the shifter position indicates that it was correctly shifted to park. Under that presumption, drivers have exited the Ford vehicle only to have it roll, increasing the risk of injury or a crash. The National Highway Safety Administration has received reports of property damage and injuries potentially related to this problem.
